8 months too late. In March 2022, Fresno Chinatown's historic buildings were destroyed in a fire. Upon visiting this ghosttown of a landmark, it was kind of cool to imagine that this place was once a bustling area in the 1900s. Due to urban development and fire, most of the buildings are gone. When I came to this area.. There was a chilling feeling that came over me. “How could such a vibrant town with rich culture quickly become desolate like this?” This reminder and humbling experience really taught me the importance of preserving our Chinatowns, to correct the narrative in our history books.
