Did you know that San Jose used to have five Chinatowns that lasted until the 1930s? It was home to the first Chinese schools in the area, as well as was home to over 2,000 people! The Market Street Chinatown was burned down twice by anti-Chinese arsonists. Though this Chinatown doesn’t exist today, we get to be able to see the history at the Chinese American Historical Museum! We combat the continuing attempted erasure of Asian Americans through keeping these towns in our memory and looking at our history books. ☺️
